Hi everyone. A quick message to let you know my latest podcast has just gone live. You can find it below via Spotify but also on all good podcast sites. I sat down with Hong Kong Watch founder and CEO, Benedict Rogers, to discuss the latest security laws in Hong Kong and the chilling effect they are having there and across the globe. Listen below:
It is quite challenging to explain to normal kiwi who do not follow geopolitics that why Hong Kong matters.
Somehow I found that they need more “down to the earth” scenario, saying “NZer travelling to HK to watch Hong Kong Sevens and they liked a pro-democracy fb post back in 2019.” Based on the very broad NSL & Article 23, there are no guarantee that they will not be arrested in HK due to the social media activities.
The NZ govt should voice out more about the risk of NZer travelling to HK, updating the Safe Travel website is good but not enough.
Thank you Simon, I had quite forgotten about Hong Kong…so sad and as you say, chilling about what’s going on there. Unbelievable what the world is coming to lately.
Thanks Simon for keeping an eye on Hong Kong.

Agreed. What happens there is rarely discussed here, including in media. More kiwis are at risk due to the law change.
