Great to read a post from you again. So agree with your disappointment at nz reluctance to call out Hamas et al for who and what they are. Nz seems to have lost its moral compass and embraced a victim oppressor mindset in so many ways and this is clearly not conducive to building a healthy, united society. The Christchurch call is empty rhetoric when we can't bring ourselves to condemn the evil that took place on Oct 7th and those with a clearly stated intent to do it again and again! Who was it who said that the greater evil is when good men stand by and say nothing in the face of evil.

Sadly, there has been so many events over many years - and across many governments - that should have lead to such designations. Again, I think of the horrid behaviour of the IRGC including last year (Masha Amini et al) and yet nothing substantial is done.

Thanks Simon.

Incredible to think that those in the peaceful protest outside the beehive were called terrorists by Ardern and her followers, and freedom of speech was described as ‘a weapon of war’ by Ardern during a speech to the UN, and yet the HAMAS attack on unarmed civilians, raping, torturing and murdering them simply because of their ethnicity and religion, seems to be acceptable to those same politicians rather than something that can be described as an act of terrorism. How they can sleep at night with views that beggar belief is beyond my comprehension.

Simon, great to hear you have emerged after sorting out the little jobs around the house!

On the subject of clearing things around the house, at a national level, we also need to ensure the legacy of the previous regime is resolved. As you quite rightly point out sitting on the fence over important issues isn’t an option as those with an agenda will be encouraged by our silence.

The evidence of this is clear in our own backyard where years of silence over the growing racial issues have morphed into more strident moves by maoridom towards a Cold War that if we don’t act now to quell will result in a country the vast majority will not recognize.

There is a social trend that must be reversed, and that is to debate the subject and not the person. My hope is that this will be a significant shift we can all benefit from.

All the very best wishes Simon for your new beginnings, and this forum.

This is an area where much more discussion and debate is needed, rather than suppressed. Many have thoughts to share, but scared to do so. Others spend all their time name-calling and abusing anyone who questions their narrative. A bad mixture!
