Not all flags are made equal it seems. According to some, protest and foreign flags are acceptable but flying your nation's flag - well, that makes you far-right and dangerous.
Oikophobia...certainly seeing same all over. I deplore tge flags of hate that are flying.
A friend has a petition going forward to fly the Suffrage colours on 19 September as our parliament certainly does not respect women nor our being the first country to gain women's voting rights.
It’s not a new phenomenon. Waving the St George or Union Jack was as socially unacceptable in the 90s, for same said reasons, as it seems to be now. For decades the country has struggled to articulate a clear picture of what it means to be British, while simultaneously denying the good in anything the country has ever done or achieved. So interesting to finally see some push back.
Roger Scruton writes of this too, the general reluctance of the British to express themselves in this way. What strikes me currently, is the mad willingness to fly every other flag - often with violent connotation.
My Dad was a great user of the word "oik". He used it as a perjorative for some pencil pushing git (a modern oik) .A great oik was some clumsy oaf (also an oik). This word needs to return to encapsulate our feelings for those in authority, for whom there is no better description than "oik".
“In intention, at any rate, the English intelligentsia are Europeanized. They take their cookery from Paris and their opinions from Moscow. In the general patriotism of the country they form a sort of island of dissident thought. England is perhaps the only great country whose intellectuals are ashamed of their own nationality. In left-wing circles it is always felt that there is something slightly disgraceful in being an Englishman and that it is a duty to snigger at every English institution, from horse racing to suet puddings. It is a strange fact, but it is unquestionably true that almost any English intellectual would feel more ashamed of standing to attention during ‘God save the King’ than of stealing from a poor box. All through the critical years many left-wingers were chipping away at English morale, trying to spread an outlook that was sometimes squashily pacifist, sometimes violently pro-Russian, but always anti-British.”
The rejection of the flag is the rejection of sovereignty, & also represents an active invasion & usurpation of a nation as when the Germans hoisted Nazi Swastika flags in France, Holland & many other nations across Europe!
In New Zealand we have the 'embedding' of the Maori Sovereignty flag, same meaning & purpose!
It's a coup by any other name!
The 'parasite' always exploits the host's resources, whether that is blood, body parts, or anything material!
As you mention re: oikophobia, its the local population supporting it, as locals also supported the Nazi takeover for whatever reason! We called that Nazi collaboration for which the oikophobes paid a huge price at war's end!
As will be the case today! Ignorance will be no excuse!
Once we take responsibility to fix this mess there will be no looking back!
Lk 9:62 "Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plough and looks back is fit for the Kingdom of God".
What have Christians been doing for the last century? Lk 8:21, Rom 2:13, James 1:22-25, Rev 3:1-3, 15-17, Rev 20:12
'A house divided can not stand'! Therefore Ezek 37:7-10, Jn 17:20-23
"Jesus said to 'SEEK FIRST God's Kingdom & His Righteousness" NOT mammon, Mt 6:19-33, Mt 6:10, Mt 28:18-20, Hag 1:1-11 => Hag 1:12-15 = God's people united to accomplish God's Will!
It's the failure of Christians to ACT, that has caused these problems worldwide! Mt 7:21-23, Mt 25:24-30, Mt 25:1-13
For 'every action there is an opposite an equal reaction', 'we reap as we have sowed!
Democracy will not solve these problems, instead it has become the 'gasoline' to make matters worse!
Mt 7:24-27
Only when people willingly turn to God & keep & practise His Word, will we be able to 'right the ship' & create God's Kingdom as Jesus mandated us to DO!
Otherwise we are a hindrance to God's purpose! Mt 16:23

also consider writing to the Speaker of Parliament as pretty sure it's his call to do so, or not.
