Simon it appears that the toitu te tiriti and their motley crew are in favour of violent oppressive causes. They call it inclusivity. Would they be shocked in this country being from the far left to be shown they are in fact supporting islamo-fascist far right extremists? Hitler was documented to have an ally in the Palestinian Mufti during the second world war.

Simon O'Connor's avatar

yes, it's the glaring paradox of progressive movements. More often, what they say is not what they do. This new group is a splinter of the previous Toitu te Tiriti, after the huge Maori party blow up and likely corruption.

On your note of police inconsistencies, there are many examples of overpowered responses to the wrong kind of causes. Do you remember also under Covid the strongarmed charges against Billy TK, Vinny Eastwood and actually Brian Tamaki too, for breaching covid restrictions as compared to the full BLM waiver.

Simon O'Connor's avatar

oh, the list of inconsistencies would take pages to express and wouldn't solely be the purview of radicals or the left either.

Thanks Simon, look forward to a further substack on this. You have me scratching my brain, good work.

Thanks Simon. Well said, ‘the oppressed and the oppressor’ these concepts have been confused and so inverted. The naive useful idiots exhaust me.

Re: the New Zealand Patriots March on Saturday, I was there, no one hiding behind face masks, no agro signage. I recommend you Yvonne Von Dongen’s response as well, she’s very perceptive.

Simon O'Connor's avatar

Yvonne’s writing is great. Plus I did very much note the conduct of the protest - very much in contrast to many others!

You are so right. I'm attempting a WhatsApp page for dissenters within our church to express themselves over the inconsistencies of today. The initial response has been harsh.

Simon O'Connor's avatar

I can imagine. The current narrative does not like being challenged.

Great break down and description (as usual) but I reckon its simpler than that.

In our country-

Education promoting truth and facts is not prioritised highly enough.

Lawless behaviour often is normalised.

Activism is also treated as an allowable vocation of some strange type.

The reason these things have now become out of control is simple.

In their fervour to gain ongoing re-election and sustain soft and often well paid jobs, a vast majority of people in NZ governance have ensured that the good old Kiwi taxpayer can foot the bill for whatever self serving issue they decide.

Too often for counter-productive things we didnt even ask for.

In my experience

Asking “whos funding it?” at the beginning of any controversy often puts the right filter on it.

My favourite example -NZ Media.

Its pretty obvious even the “Right” politicians are too frightened to do anything serious about that subject.

So the nett result is NZ taxpayers inadvertently keep funding biased and Nationally destructive media activity while our leadership watches and does very little to moderate it.

Just deciding that Taxpayers should stop funding much of that - would fix a large degree of our Nations problems.

Call out “whos providing the funding” more often…..

Could work for a few other subjects too I reckon.

I agree with much of this, including how activism is promoted in education as a meaningful career (I think I've seen some ads on TV promoting the same idea).

Writing about the fringe element on both sides of the political spectrum simply encourages them. Ignore them and, like upset children, they wilt away.

Simon O'Connor's avatar

I'm usually a strong believer in the ignore, give no oxygen approach ... but I think much of this has moved beyond the fringe. It might be fringe, but it's being mainstreamed hence the need to discuss and push back.

Okay, so help me start a movement, "Raical Extremists have had their turn - now its time for the mildly peeved." Ordinary people can join up. We need a Moderate Mayhem Movement. No left. No right. Just mildly irritated members. We could have banners, slogans, pithy things to broadcast with a bullhorn, even a coloring in book for kids. Simon, would you like to be treasurer?

The 'oppressed class' also includes the 'thick & stupid'!

It's a self-fulfilling prophecy!

Maorui causes seem to garner greater support and sympathy from police.

It's almost like they have preferential treatment.

The recent funeral at Foxton marae case in point. Hundreds of cars parked ilkefally along SH1, 9 police, 7 police cars doing STMS duties.

Maori receive $millions annually for marae, and they cannot verify forced by NZTA to pay their own way?

Council paid for STMS for Kemp's marae based funeral, and Turui had free STMS from Council and NZTA too.

How much will Waitangi cost the taxpayer? While whitey is effectively excluded by radical violent rhetoric.

Stop the double standards and charge these drifters of the public purse.

You have to wonder just how many people stop to consider these inconsistencies. I suspect the majority don't .

Simon has presented a perfect demonstration of Critical Thinking versus Critical Theory - Lest we forget ‘theory’ is essentially impractical idealism rather than application of theory into practical and useable action. Wasn’t there an american publicly executed recently because he spoke too much sense..?

Over my lifetime those who promote and speak too much sense have been either physically killed off or publicly and unjustly smeared by professional Trolls or had trumped up charges brought against them. The internet is a two-edged sword too easily manipulated. We NZers have always had an issue with tall poppies. But going very public can be an advantage. Staying pristine is worse than surfing on the leading edge of the wave. Cowabunga Simon, Cowabunga!!

Thank you for this great post.

When I think of consistency, I think of Charlie Kirk, a man who treated everyone fairly and equally in matters of debate and who gave everyone the same advice. Whether or not you agree with the advice he gave you cannot deny his consistency in giving it, and I think he can serve as a good example to us who seek a way forward... whether or not you like someone or agree with their cause, you have the responsibility to treat them with a baseline of respect and decency, and you should try VERY VERY HARD not to be biased against them. It's our job to give them a platform so that they can do the rest.

Something ironic about the lack of consistency on the left is that fact that consistency is actually a hallmark of the 'inclusivity' and 'equality' they spend so much time championing... at any rate, I would think consistency would be something that progressives would go crazy about, because I cannot think of a more 'fair' or 'liberal' concept, nor something which, if implemented, would have as positive an impact on the lives of the people they claim to represent!

The fact that the left aren't more consistent is yet another sign that they're all going a little bit crazy, and far more irrational than should be encouraged...

Well written Simon. The hypocrisy of the woke is staggering. Examples such as ‘two-tier Keir’, MSM treatment of Trump or anyone more right than Greta, Albanese the slimy git and as you stated, even in little old ‘fair play’ NZ. Well, fair play is gone. Hypocrisy & selective morality now reign. Chloe will never march for Iran because she & her ilk would have to admit that it ain’t Jews or white folk causing the problem. Just like slavery ain’t a ‘western’ thing. Her entire narrative would collapse.

"We need to assess each situation on it’s merits, apply reason and consideration, seek a consistent application, and then speak and act accordingly."

I like this notion of yours. We should give it a name. Maybe it could become trendy.

Any ideas?

Brian Tamaki and followers will all enter the harbour bridge run and how can the stop them? The consistent kiwis will support them doing it.
